Is The Pressure To Succeed Beginning To Feel Overwhelming?

For many of the clients we see in therapy, anxiety takes the form of an often harsh and endless inner critic, a constant pressure to achieve, an inability to relax or feel confident in themselves, and a general sense of overwhelm. Life is a rollercoaster of panicked thoughts, questions, and doubts—rarely, if ever, offering a sense of stability.

Anxiety seems to be the primary driver of their decisions, affecting their performance and relationships. Over time, anxious thinking becomes the baseline for engaging with themselves and the world around them. It’s exhausting.

Our therapists specialize in counseling for older teens and young adults experiencing a range of anxiety symptoms. Whether anxiety presents as high-achieving perfectionism or a lack of structure and decisiveness, we can help you get off the rollercoaster and onto steady ground so that you can live with more confidence and clarity.

Anxiety Is A Normal Response To Stress That Can Take Over If Left Unchecked

That anxious inner voice of yours really is just a bully. You do possess innate strengths, skills, and abilities, but various pressures—whether external or self-imposed—have duped you into believing you aren’t good enough. Add the high standards for output and performance that we encounter in Orange County, and it makes sense why so many people transitioning into adulthood struggle with aspects of anxiety.

Therapy Is A Tool For Overcoming Anxiety, Not A Sign Of Weakness

An incessant inner critic is what brings many individuals to therapy, often for the first time. In many cases, they may feel like something is “wrong” with them and that needing support only triggers the anxiety spiral even further.

In reality, therapeutic treatment reduces feelings of panic and anxiety as you learn to regulate your stress response and challenge unhelpful beliefs. As we do the work of addressing deeply held patterns alongside developing practical skills for change in therapy, you can reclaim the space that anxiety has taken away.

Common Questions About Therapy For Anxiety…

Is medication part of anxiety treatment?

Medication can be helpful for some people, and the decision to incorporate it into treatment is entirely up to you. Though our therapists are not licensed to prescribe medication, we will support you in exploring your options and getting connected with a prescriber if that’s what you want to do.

Therapy is a great tool for reducing anxiety, whether or not you use medication. As we create an actionable treatment plan that increases your coping and regulation skills, you can learn how to tap into your inner resources when anxiety strikes.

I’ve tried to address my anxiety in counseling before, but I had a bad experience with the therapist—how will therapy with you be different?

It’s such a bummer to have a negative experience in therapy, and we’re here to help you process it. Our therapists are invested in making therapy an experience that works for you, taking your existing skills, triggers, and past trauma into account. We strongly believe in meeting your needs and taking them seriously.

If counseling ever feels unsafe, like it’s moving too fast, or like it’s making your anxiety worse, please let us know so we can collaborate with you on a treatment approach that feels gentle yet productive.

How often will I have to attend therapy?

Building momentum is an important aspect of initiating the healing process, so we recommend that clients attend therapy on a weekly basis until they’ve reached their desired outcomes or noticed a significant decrease in symptoms. From there, we can reduce to a bi-weekly or monthly schedule, potentially with the goal of weaning off sessions entirely.

Ultimately, the pace of therapy is up to you, and we are here to help reinforce and affirm your progress in whichever way feels best.

How Doomscrolling Can Fuel Anxiety and Fear in Adolescents

Your phone pings with a new notification, so you grab it, intending to check it and move on quickly. Forty-five minutes later, you’ve watched a handful of reels on the latest viral trend, browsed through influencer go-tos, read a thread about a school shooting in another state, and somehow ended up on a post about how we’re headed towards an economic crash. The rabbit hole you’ve found yourself in is doomscrolling. It’s the endless consumption of negative and distressing content online, even when it makes you feel worse. While it may seem like harmless scrolling, for adolescents who are already navigating an emotional rollercoaster, it can be a huge driver of anxiety each day.

Signs Your Teen May Be Struggling With Anxiety
