If Left Unmanaged, ADHD Can Impact Every Aspect Of Life
Many of the clients we work with are motivated and want to succeed, but aspects of ADHD cause them to struggle with anxiety, organization, and accountability. While they may have felt capable of managing challenges throughout childhood and high school, they are now faced with the more intense academic pressures of college, the heightened responsibility of working and living independently, and the emotional complexities that come with dating, often for the first time.
Their lives suddenly feel very structureless—and while this can be an exciting place to be as a young adult, it can quickly pose obstacles for the ADHD brain. A lot of clients come to us because they’re struggling to manage the juggle of it all, between their assignments, extracurriculars, family, friends, and romantic relationships.
Counseling can help. In the process of developing a new understanding of yourself and your brain through therapy, you can learn which skills are needed in order for you to thrive—even when symptoms of ADHD are present.

We Provide Nonjudgmental, Strengths-Based Support To Older Teens And Young Adults Living With ADHD
Our therapists understand that, oftentimes, ADHD is a misunderstood condition; we know that neurodivergent brains are no less smart or capable and that ADHD is not an “excuse” or an attempt to cut corners.
We live in an extremely competitive culture here in Orange County, particularly as it pertains to academic and professional success, which causes many of our clients struggling with ADHD to feel like they aren’t competent or good enough. Add the ever-growing distraction of technology to the mix, and it’s no wonder that so many of them feel overwhelmed and over-stimulated.
Our approach to therapy aims to work with the ADHD brain—not against it. As we work to create an environment where you can focus and make decisions with clarity, you can take steps toward becoming the student, employee, friend, family member, and/or partner you aspire to be.
ADHD Treatment Through Care Concepts Therapy
Therapy is individualized to the unique needs and experiences of each of our clients. With the goal of fostering a rock-solid, highly trusted therapeutic relationship, we will get to know more about your past experiences with ADHD and goals for counseling in order to customize treatment. Part of this will include psychoeducation around executive functioning and how yours is being impacted, whether or not an official ADHD diagnosis is present.
From there, we will begin to incorporate tailormade skills and behavioral strategies for regulating your emotions and nervous system. These will allow you to maintain a sense of control even when things get overwhelming, paving the way to calmer decisions, a clearer outlook, and healthier, more effective communication.

What To Expect
One of the tools we use in therapy for ADHD is a technique called “doubling,” which we can immediately implement into treatment. Through this process, your therapist will sit alongside you as you complete tasks that are overwhelming in order to study your tendencies and collaborate with you on strategies to help you when things feel too intense.
We will also work on aspects of co-regulation as your therapist acts as a container for big emotions. Modeling a calm, comfortable environment, we can begin chipping away at stored trauma that needs to be reprocessed so you can let go of stress, anxiety, and unhelpful beliefs.
A new sense of confidence is possible. As you discover what your unique brain needs through therapy, you can feel more organized, more satisfied in your relationships, and more capable of handling what life throws your way. You do have power over what happens next, and a therapist can be a great resource on your journey.
Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy For ADHD…
What if I’m nervous to open up to a stranger about my experiences?
We absolutely understand that the idea of opening up to a therapist can be intimidating and overwhelming, especially if this is your first time in counseling. Our therapists will ensure that this process moves at your speed, never pressuring you to discuss anything heavy before you’re ready.
It’s worth noting that you’ll likely have a good idea of if your therapist is a good fit within the first session or two. We strive to create a casual, highly personable therapeutic environment, and we will do everything we can to put you at ease throughout this process.
How will I know if therapy is working?
Each client is unique and has different treatment goals. To get a sense of your progress, we encourage you to reflect on whether or not you feel better after a session than you did when it began. If you do, that’s usually a good indicator that you are moving in the right direction.
If not, we want you to keep coming until you do. It can sometimes take a while to build an effective therapeutic relationship, but as long as you’re feeling increasingly comfortable and vulnerable between each session, it signals that therapy is working.
How long does treatment for ADHD last?
Because this process is individualized to the needs of each client, there is no set timeline for ADHD treatment through our practice. That said, we know that many clients come to us feeling frustrated and hopeless—especially if they’ve tried therapy in the past. We want to make sure you’re leaving the very first appointment with a game plan for making progress, however that might look for you.
