Therapy For Teens
in Newport Beach, CA
Is Your Teen In Need Of Support?
Does your teen struggle to feel motivated, connected, and confident?
Is it difficult for them to regulate their stress and emotions?
Are they often resistant or reactive in ways that generate conflict at school, at home, or among their friends?
Navigating new feelings, goals, and identities during adolescence can be challenging. But for teens growing up in Orange County, there seems to be a lot more pressure to succeed.
Every teenager experiences this stress differently, whether they withdraw, get stuck in counterproductive patterns, or burn the candle at both ends just to keep up. Not only does this affect their mental health and routine; their relationships suffer because they feel isolated, unknown, and unable to fully express themselves.
We are here to assure you and your teen that they are not alone in their struggles—they just haven’t fully developed the emotional intelligence and stress management skills we all need to thrive.
Our therapists are passionate about helping teens ensure a smooth, successful transition into high school and young adulthood. As we work together in therapy to better understand your teen’s emotional, cognitive, and relational needs, we can help restore a sense of peace and confidence that they can carry into the rest of their lives.

A Lot Of Teens Struggle With Mental Health, Often For The First Time
For a lot of the teens we work with in therapy, high school is when life starts getting real. Academics are turned up a notch, and grades matter in a way that they may not have before. Learning struggles can develop or intensify during this time, and the juggle of school and extracurriculars is often very overwhelming.
A sense of belonging is also crucial, with many teens relating to their friends in new and sometimes complicated ways. Peer pressure and bullying remain from the days we were teens, but they’ve taken on a new and darker spin with the advent of technology and social media. It’s a lot to navigate.
On top of that, it’s not uncommon for teens to encounter challenges at home. A desire for more independence may create friction with family members, and mood changes might make it difficult to have calm conversations or establish healthy boundaries. Especially if your family is going through a major transition like a move, divorce, or death in the family, you may feel like your teen is increasingly at odds with you, their siblings, or themselves.
Our therapists understand how disorienting it can be for everyone in the family when these obstacles arise—and we want to assure both you and your teen that a new path is possible with therapy. As we bridge the gap in understanding standard development compared to a mental health struggle, we can normalize the experience your teen is having as we begin to reconnect and rebuild through counseling.
Counseling For Teens Through Care Concepts Therapy
Our practice specializes in highly tailored, supportive counseling for teenage clients and young adults experiencing anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, and relational issues. By centering this process around each teen’s unique history and goals for therapy, we empower our clients to learn and implement tools that will aid them for life.

What To Expect
Our therapists are trained in a range of highly effective, skills-based, behavioral, and trauma-informed methods. We rely heavily on the client-counselor relationship to instill a sense of safety and confidence in the teens that we work with.
One of the most effective tools we use in therapy for teens is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This approach safely and gently slows down the body’s stress response while installing healthier, more realistic self-beliefs. You can find out more about EMDR therapy for teens by visiting the FAQ below.
As a practice that both specializes in counseling for teens and EMDR, we are passionate about helping our clients reprocess stress, regulate the nervous system, and set themselves up for a calmer, more peaceful existence.

By carving out space for their healing on a regular basis, your teen can discover what they need to thrive and how to get there.
Common Questions About EMDR Therapy For Teens…
My teen has never done therapy/EMDR—how do I know this will be effective?
We believe that everyone, regardless of age, ability, or experience, can benefit from having a place that is uniquely theirs to heal and grow. Teens go through specific challenges, and for many of them, therapy is the only place in their lives that offers them space and guidance that is 100% judgment- and pressure-free.
If you or your teen are unfamiliar with any of our approaches, including EMDR, our therapists will make sure you have all the necessary information to begin treatment. It’s worth noting that EMDR is one of the most effective trauma-informed approaches out there, demonstrated to reduce panic, anxiety, and emotional triggers. Many of our teen clients have made great strides using this therapy!
How involved will I be in my teen’s therapy?
Parents are an important part of therapy and will be included in the first session and throughout the process. The first session will allow us to collaborate on goals and help everyone get on the same page about what to expect.
Following that, all sessions will be conducted with the teen client until they’re ready for parental involvement. We also provide parents with monthly updates about their teen’s progress in general. That said, we deeply value the sacred space of therapy and will only offer updates that clients have signed off on before we speak to their parents.
Will we do EMDR in the very first session?
While EMDR is a structured approach, there are a few steps in the process before the reprocessing phase. You can read more about the eight phases of EMDR here.
Ordinarily, when working with teens, our therapists spend a few sessions getting to know the client, their parent(s), history, family dynamic, and goals for counseling. Along the way, we will get a sense of which existing coping skills are in place and also offer strategies for staying regulated.
Once it’s determined by the teen and their therapist that they’re ready for the reprocessing phase of EMDR, we will begin to gently implement bilateral stimulation. Some clients may be ready for EMDR after three sessions, while others may need longer. We know treatment only works if our teen clients feel safe and comfortable, so we will never rush the process.
